Jailed criminal seeks Rs 20L extortion

Ara: An inmate of Muzaffarpur jail allegedly demanded an extortion of Rs 20 lakh from a contractor on Wednesday and threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to pay the amount.
The inmate, Dani Yadav, sent a message to the cellphone of the contractor, Sunil Singh, a resident of Ichari Pipara under Dhobaha police outpost seeking the ransom amount.
The contractor, who has lodged an FIR with Dhobaha police outpost in connection with the threat, could not be contacted as he has left Bhojpur fearing attack. His family members are also living under constant fear.
Officer-in-charge of Dhobaha police outpost Pawan Kumar said Dani Yadav, who is currently lodged in Muzaffarpur jail, sent a message to the contractor and threatened to eliminate him within 48 hours if he failed to pay the amount. Sunil Singh had won contract for the construction of a road from Shahodih to Sikaria halt under Shahpur police station, a project of Rs 1.5 crore, under chief minister's road construction scheme. He is also said to be a close relative of former MLA Asha Devi. Sunil Singh received the message when he was on way to Ara.
